Rare Device Store News

lazy days of summ…i mean spring

May 16th, 2008

As those of you who live in the Bay Area know, it’s super warm here right now. In San Francisco it’s in the 90’s and that rarely happens. It’s even hot in the store, which rarely gets hot (it’s protected from direct sunlight so it has to be really warm outside for it to get warm in here). Anyhow, I am feeling really warm and lazy today!!

Here at Rare Device we are very excited about our next gallery show with Amy Ross. Here’s the info on the opening.
June 6-July 8
Opening party: June 6 7-9 pm!!

Enjoy your weekend and come by to visit us!!

Hello from Brooklyn

May 15th, 2008

Hi, Rena here, in Brooklyn for the weekend at the shop…already I have seen many regulars stop by and it’s been great! Just wanted to say that the store is pretty well cleaned out so we might not even make it to Sunday at this rate. Please give a yell or watch this space to see if we are going to close up a day early. Thanks again for all the love!

In San Francisco, get out of the crazy hot weather into the cool of the shop and pick up a cute tee or sundress to wear! We have an excellent selection of new Pyrrha necklace designs too, great for men or women.

Global Goods

May 13th, 2008

Today we received shipments from all parts of the globe -  leather acorn keychain charms from Eastern Europe, letterpressed notebooks and postcards from Portugal, Grid-It notepads from Spain, and Princess Tina clothing from Australia…and later this week we’ll be visiting ICFF and the National Stationery Show in New York, which will feature designers from very far away, and as near as San Francisco.

We love finding unique goods for you. We are aware of the emissions caused by the shipping and we are looking into ways to offset this, but we think one way is to bring you beautiful non-disposable goods that you will not grow tired of looking at or using or wearing, goods you want to hold onto and cherish for a very long time; we’ll call this generational for lack of a better term. If we can bring you items that are local, or highly functional, or generational, or recycled or sustainable, we feel we are doing our jobs.

Cute Shopper Alert

May 8th, 2008

We get some stylish boys and girls perusing the wares…we are going to start snapping pictures to give you more eye candy! Today’s shy lady has a great coat and shoes, plus she is sporting the striped Baggu that she bought on a previous visit. We like how she knotted her Baggu to make a new silhouette.

We also received a visit from an owner of a brand-new SF boutique in the Mission district called Gravel and Gold. They will carry handmade and vintage items and hold events in their space too. We can already feel we are going to be kindred spirits - good luck ladies!
