Arrivals and Departures

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

Today was the last day of Lena Corwin’s show at Rare Device. It was so wonderful to work with her and to look at her beautiful designs all month! The window is now bare and it is a shock, I feel quite naked now that the tree backdrop is gone. Incidentally, the temperature has gone up about 10-15 degrees since the start of the show and the afternoon sun is going to be quite a killer.

I’m going to keep some of the limited edition plates on hand, and the great vintage ties (hint hint Father’s Day).

Fun things that came in the post today: a few new card designs by Hanna Werning, the coolest greeting cards around. A small shipment of the Buddha Machine, a mysterious little box that plays a small assortment of looped electronic music when you turn it on – it’s rather magical, like something in a novel. Also, more keyaki (Japanese elm) tea cups and little sake cups, carved from a single block of wood. And, more Sugahara glassware, this time a hammered glass sake or very small old-fashioned cup.

The etched glass carafes are back in stock, as are the all glass teapots. Both are very lovely wedding-type presents. I’ll try to get them on the site this week.

Finally, I am not sure if I mentioned it but I’ll be at the Gen Art Shop NYC event on June 14. It’s a fun shopping event with lots of accessories and clothing at sample sale prices. I’ll be hawking my Spring jewelry line there, plus a bunch of fun one-offs, aka contenders for the Fall collection.

Press notes: Turk and Taylor is featured in this month’s Gotham. Analogous Jewelry is in this week’s Time Out NY. And we are due to make an appearance in a couple magazines next month as well…

Domino

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Checking our referrer logs, we just noticed that we’re on Domino Magazine’s Sites We Love – we are honored to be in such good company!

Rare Picks report – hot sellers include the razorblade necklace by Analogous Jewelry and the new Coffee for One set by For Life.

Coming soon – artist-designed wall adhesives by Vynil, a French company. You can see a sample on this month’s Elle Decor UK cover I believe. Also, squishy bright yummy leather bags from Hong Kong, check out a few images below.

Amy Tavern

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

I just can’t keep Amy Tavern’s work in stock. I just got a box of many new designs, including the egg necklace and earrings (funny how a slightly misshapen oval can be so evocative) and more gold-filled and blackened steel pieces which are just so sophisticated. Amy will be at the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg next month and I can’t wait to meet her!

FYI, Lena Corwin’s show is coming down after next Wednesday the 31st. I’ll still have the lovely limited-edition plates and some muslin posters at the shop but everything else must go back to Fort Greene, so come by and peek at her great window while you can.

Shop Images

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Just a couple images of the latest at Rare Device. Tania Julian vases and Forlife coffee (or tea) press for one. The press will be available online to purchase this weekend – we’ve added a “New Arrivals” section to Rare Picks so it’ll show up there.

Holiday Weekend

Friday, May 26th, 2006

It’s shaping up to be a drizzly, quiet Memorial Day weekend in Brooklyn. Today was the first clammy day, always a surprise after the oh-so-nice spring weather. Oh well, knew it couldn’t last.

For your weekend enjoyment though, there are new books in, including a comics/sketchbook called Process Recess, Evany’s book, the new Kitchen Sink and Cabinet magazines for your consumption, and a crazy book called The Difference Between Telling and Selling from the office of Ryan McGinness. Finally, we have just one copy of “The Zine Unbound” which was created for an exhibition in San Francisco last year – it includes two exhibition books, 3 silkscreened prints and a DVD! Made in a limited edition and probably out of print.

Also in, a few more gorgeous vases from Tania Julian…up next will be more skirts from Lemon Twist and a bit of the spring collection by Canadian designer Allison Wonderland.
