Random Musings

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

1. Need to find a city bike for me. I am super-short but want a Dutch bike, and the Dutch are very tall. Still thinking about a solution.

2. Taking care of two dogs is more than twice as hard as taking care of one. This sort of mathematics probably has a name.

3. San Franciscans love color. Everyone who has visited the store here has asked, “What color are you going to paint it?” Um, white? Trust us, it will look great.

FYI, we are getting quite close with RDSF. Mostly it’s about painting, hanging more fixtures and lighting, and waiting for the credit card terminal to arrive. Only about 15% of our opening inventory is here so far, but it’s such good stuff that I would happily open the shop tomorrow.

In New York, it’s all about a new bag, whether that’s a cute clutch, a big carryall, or a laptop-bag-that-doesn’t-look-like-a-laptop-bag.

ACC Salon Talk Overview

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Etsy did a nice little blogcast with some footage from our talk on the 20th, it’s right here.

Also, we have wonderful paper goods from Mateo Ilasco, run by Meg whose book launch party we are sponsoring next Tuesday! I hope everyone in SF will come out and say hi. We will have our new cards and stickers to promote the store, and there will be a raffle and lots of fun.

Just a shot (by Laura) of the new jewelry by Catherine Weitzman at the Brooklyn store. It’s all about the gold right now!

Olle & Etsy

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Remember that beautiful book by the late Olle Eksell? It’s back in print and we have some at the BK shop! Some of you have been waiting months for this. We also are restocked on Catherine Weitzman jewelry and on essential cute notebooks from Jill Bliss, and some new notecards from Sukie.
Also, please visit the Storque (an Etsy publication) for an interview with my biz partner Lisa Congdon, it’s great and gives you some insight into why she is going to be a super partner at RDSF.

Today is warm and lovely in SF. My poor dog Mia keeps standing at the gate at the store, looking longingly out at the patch of sun on the sidewalk. We are fully into Indian Summer here and I love it! However, sometimes I check out the Sodafine fall goods and want it to be a wee bit colder. Right now I am lusting after these boots and this sweater. Actually these are both year-round items in the Bay Area…

Highway

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Rare + Fine BK has had the new Highway bags for a week now, but we just got our batch here in SF today. I am not really supposed to be checking out the merch yet (there is a fine layer of sawdust everywhere) but I really could not resist. I am so, so ready to open up the new store!

In other news, I spent a day and a half fuming and waiting for AT&T to restore my phone/DSL when it was revealed by the technician that yes, I had the line plugged into the wrong jack. Doh.

Two more events I missed reporting on – tomorrow night Greenjeans Brooklyn is having a reception for an art show on garbage which looks amazing. Then on Oct. 4, The Curiosity Shoppe is having their grand opening party and art reception for Shawn Creeden in San Francisco.
Currently: contemplating just how big of a slice of my birthday cake (carrot, yum) to have for dessert tonight.
