Upcoming Shows

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I was going to write about the major art shows going on around the country but they already get a lot of play. Here are a few of the indie ones coming up in California. If you have others, please leave a note in the comments.

Tomorrow my super-partner Lisa’s show opens at Firefly in Venice, CA.  I am pretty sad I can’t be there cuz the work looks great! If you are in LA, go down and say hi to my girl.

Friday is Park Life’s one year anniversary and group show opening, including Kelly Lynn Jones and many other great artists. Someone said our shop is like theirs so I want to go say hi. Saturday my friend Mike has art in a new show up at Ritual Roasters. I will get a gibraltar (or something stronger) and cheer him on.
Next week I have a San Francisco triple header: Thursday night is opening night for Diana Fayt at CandyStore, Friday night it’s Lorena Siminovich’s turn at Doe, and then Saturday we see Susie Ghahremani at Giant Robot. Whew!

Shara Porter

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Today we received a shipment of Shara Porter coin purses, billfolds and wallets at RDSF. We’ve carried this line in Brooklyn for a while and are pleased to bring them to San Francisco. Shara buys mostly used leather goods (she has depleted the thrift stores near her home in New Bedford, MA, I hear), cleans them up and then silkscreens a charming assortment of images on them. I have a bright blue wallet with bugs and birds on it and everybody loves it when they see it. We are not strictly a recycle/reuse shop but we love how Shara adds her own mark to these lovely old accessories – we’re also fans of old-style wallet design with their clear credit card sleeves, vintage colors and coin purses that close with a snap instead of a zip.

Also on the way to SF – Fernworks resin pendants from Seattle and Snowcone Collective tees for guys.

KLJ in the Webshop

Friday, October 26th, 2007

If you are not in San Francisco, you can check out (and purchase) all of Kelly Lynn Jones’ work online in our webshop – well, except for the pieces that sold last night, of course!

Now that things are getting back to normal, we’ll be doing more regular webshop updates of our new products. Three things that are coming soon: beautiful leather credit card holders from Nava Italy in bright colors, Grid-It notepads based on grid systems that famous graphic designers and typographers have made popular, and holiday cards (yup, it’s that time) from Rachell Sumpter, Amy Ruppel, Marcel Dzama, and our favorite indie letterpress artists.

P.S. If you are a Karin Eriksson fan, we just got a big box of her work in the SF store.

Thank You So Much

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

It’s almost midnight and we are finally home after our opening night party in San Francisco. We want to thank everyone for welcoming us to the neighborhood! It was a crazy, crowded affair and it was great to see old and new friends and family. Big thanks to our helper ladies Natalie and Jessica, our friends who bartended and did crowd control and brought beautiful bunches of flowers, Rena’s husband who drove up from LA to help out, Lisa’s parents for helping us run errands, and especially to our Brooklyn crew for keeping things sane while we opened the new shop. We couldn’t have done it without you.
