Goods from Abroad

Friday, September 26th, 2008

It is getting a wee bit expensive to keep doing this, but we love our international designers who are not often represented in the U.S. We don’t have a sidewalk sale planned for this weekend, but we *do* have brand-new clothing for men and women by Dunderdon, a sort of Swedish workwear line, and we also have beautiful handprinted wallpaper from London by the ladies of MissPrint, who were very popular at ICFF.

And great news for Aida Dirse fanatics – she has just sent pictures over of 20 new bowls and they are gorgeous, and heading to Rare Device right now, all the way from Lithuania. Only the best for you!

You Are Here

It’s a little bit silly but almost one year in this location, we have finally erected a sign so that it is a little bit easier to find Rare Device. I rather like the mysterious mural that Lisa made for us, but the fact that it has no text on it has been throwing people, so we gave in and have a lovely swinging sign:

Baby steps! And speaking of one year in San Francisco, we are planning a party for October 24 and we hope you can come. Make sure you are on our newsletter to get the full scoop.

Back in Stock

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

We are restocked on three of our favorite things – first we have a new shipment of the leather keychain charms from eastern Europe, the ones shaped like pumpkins and acorns. We have some of the new inventory in the webshop.

Second, we have more Olle Eksell books! It seems like the publisher in Japan has finally reprinted this great book and we have snapped up a dozen for you. Get them while they last.

Finally, we have more Baggu in stock. We have two favorite colorways plus a new one – a deep kelly green which is very pretty.

Connections

Today I got my October issue of Domino in the mail. The back page is “10 Things That Make Me Happy” and our Amy Tavern stacking gold rings are in it. (Amy will be doing a trunk show at Rare Device on November 1.) The “me” in the Domino article happens to be Lena Corwin, who is a good friend and also was the first person to show artwork at Rare Device in Brooklyn, back in May 2006.

Lena has a new book out (which we sell) and also currently collaborates with Maria of port2port to curate the visual journal Lines & Shapes (which we sell). Maria has a brand-new book with Stephanie Congdon Barnes (which we will have up in the webshop tonight) and Stephanie is RD co-owner Lisa’s sister. Whew! Got that?

Two Reminders

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

ONE: Amy Earles‘ show is halfway over and there are still gorgeous and affordable pieces available, like this one:

TWO: We are participating in the Upper Market and Castro Merchants September Sidewalk Sale this Saturday the 20th. We are pulling TONS of great items from the archives for sale at deep discount. Can you say, 50% off last marked price? Come by between 12 and 7 for some major bargains. We’ll have tables set up in front of the shop and stylish Miss Nathalie to help you pick and choose.
