Sunday, July 31st, 2011

This coming Friday, August 5th from 6-8 pm is the opening reception of Doug Ross’ Boneless. Un-scientific Prints of Marine Molluscs, Medusae, etc. The show will run through September 2.

Inspired by his recent certification as a SCUBA diver, Doug Ross’s latest show consists of limited edition silkscreen prints of the underwater world.

We are looking forward to showing Doug’s work at the gallery. We are instant fans from the minute we saw his work. We hope you can join us. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

If you are nowhere close to San Francisco, don’t worry. All of his work for the show will be up on our website.

Staff Pick: Len’s Feathers Reinterpreted Hoops

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Len is an almost native of San Francisco, having lived here since 1996 where she met Giselle while in college. Len is our resident visual merchandiser. You can usually find her hanging out at Rare Device on the weekends. Here is Len’s “to die for” favorite:

My love for jewelry started with my mum. I remember playing dress up in her room and the first thing I would open was her jewelry box. What can I say, I love shiny pretty things. I have a vivid memory of this old tin box filled with vintage beads and sequins where I would string my own necklaces.

Giovanna Torrico is truly an original jewelry line that I’ve added to my collection. I especially love her Feathers Reinterpreted Hoops. Giovanna’s jewelry reminds me of those young, care free days.

Last week for Homebrew

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

You have one more week to view Homebrew! There are still pieces available so now’s the time to buy if you’ve been eyeing them. They qualify for free shipping, too if your order is $75 or more.

The week after, we are very excited about putting up our new show, Boneless.

Garden Report

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

This is our first non-store related blog post. Once in a while, I want to use this space to share some of the things that inspire, excite and interest us. I hope you enjoy them.

At the beginning of the year I promised myself that I would plant a vegetable garden, no matter how small. After a trip to the farmer’s market in May where I bought 4 green bean plants, I was off to a good start. I was a bit weary about this because I have no experience with plants. We have a few indoor plants but they are hardy and only require that I pay attention to them every 2 weeks for a quick watering.

I went to my neighborhood garden store where I bought soil and proceeded to ask the person working there every question I can think of. How to plant, where to plant, how often do I water them, when do I fertilize, etc. Well long story short, 2 months later I discovered these beauties! I am going to harvest the biggest one tomorrow. I cannot wait to eat them!

Staff pick: Ophie’s Paint Kit

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Our friend, Alex, posted a picture of her daughter, Cat, finger painting a few weeks ago. It looked like she was having so much fun, we had to do the same!

So we grabbed a Glob paint kit from the store and took it home. I was so excited about this! I always love exposing Ophie to new and fun things. I stripped her down to her diapers, laid butcher paper on the kitchen island, mixed the paint and let her have at it. Of course all she wanted to do was put everything in her mouth including all of the mixed paint and the paint brush. Glob is non-toxic and plant-based so I wasn’t too worried about it, but still kept an eye on it.

6 different colors!

It took her a little bit of time to get the hang of it but after a while she dabbled and had fun!
