Shauna Alterio and Stephen Loidolt- Everyday
Exhibition dates: February 1, 2008 - March 4, 2008; reception date: February 1, 6 - 9 pm

San Francisco design store and gallery, Rare Device, is proud to present Shauna Alterio and Stephen Loidolt of Something's Hiding in Here and their new body of work, Everyday. Their three-dimensional installation will occupy the gallery portion of the store and the front left window and can be viewed from February 1, 2008 - March 4, 2008. A reception for the artists will be held Friday, February 1, from 6 - 9 pm.

Alterio and Loidolt live and work in Philadelphia. They met 10 years ago while studying art at the Kansas City Art Institute. They then ventured together to Cranbrook Academy, each to pursue an MFA. Loidolt s background is in sculpture and Alterio's in printmaking and curatorial studies. Together they create completely original, whimsical treasures of enormous visual interest. They have both exhibited individually in various galleries and museums.

In the last year, Alterio and Loidolt have focused only on collaborative projects. In the process, their signature identity, Something's Hiding in Here, was born. They had no idea that eight months later, Something's Hiding in Here would be featured in twenty shops and galleries around the country. It has been a breakthrough year for the pair and has been keeping them incredibly busy. "Our motto is 'must not sleep,'" notes Alterio. Something's Hiding in Here's four types of carved wooden mustaches: the banker, the swindler, the broker, and the barber--had a starring role in the New York Times piece on the Renegade Craft Fair this past year.

Everyday--their joint installation at Rare Device--is Alterio and Loidolt's first major joint installation. "Our inspiration for the show is our everyday interaction." The installation focuses on celebrating the things that happen everyday that they hardly notice, but that bear major significance.
