Statement:

I am interested in exploring how we as humans relate to nature and each other especially within the confines of a society increasingly driven by technology. My work is directly informed by my distinct experiences of having grown up in the remote mountains of Northern California as a child, and, as an adult, living in a large city. I am inspired by how my move to the city seems to parallel society’ s further removal from nature through the rise of machines that govern our interactions with each other and the world.

My book sculptures are comprised of found hardcover books that I hand-cut and paint to appear as though blades of grass are growing organically from their centers. As books become less and less a part of our lives, in this work I am interested in playing with the idea of things literally going to seed, of exploring what happens to technology once it becomes outdated.
