Breaking the Spine: Claire Nereim |
|
Claire NereimBio: Claire Nereim is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, where she is a 2011 MFA candidate at California Institute of the Arts. She received a Bachelor's degree in Visual Art from Oberlin College, Ohio. In her work she explores visual communication as it pertains to the invention of memory. Statement: Claire Nereim explores the relationship between form and meaning as it pertains to the construction of memory and space and in particular, in the points of tension between interrelated opposing states (material and immaterial, order and entropy, surface and depth). Her process involves the collection and organization of information using both intuition and research. She searches for ways to unravel the seams that tie form to meaning. Although her focus is often on failures of communication, the limitations of consciousness and intersubjectivity, she relishes the creative possibilities and endless potential of shifting meanings, the materiality of language and the coincidences and inexplicable relationships that result.
